Sohrab and Ken Hatfield (AC member) will speak about the issues that have led more and more successful musicians (especially indie musicians) to become music activists. (Examples: Maria Schneider\, David Lowery\, Marc Ribot\, Michele Schocked\, Joe Lovano\, Ken Hatfield\, Billy Harper\, Roger Blanc\, Jimmy Owens\, Sohrab Saadat Ladjevardi and many many others).\n\nTheir activism has been both influential in motivating the music community to take action and effective in changing laws affecting our livelihoods\, as demonstrated by recent legislative victories such as MMA.  These activists continue to seek remedies and redress for the inequities of the digital paradigm shift by demanding a broad scale examination of copyright remuneration fairness issues\, as well as actions such as reform of section 512 (safe harbor loophole) of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act here in the U.S (which we will address next in the agenda)\, and Article 13 (the copyright directive for the E.U.) in the countries of the European Union.\n\n2. MFM will make an official announcement that it will support political actions to amend the “Safe Harbor” provision (section 512) of the DMCA.\n\n3. DESCRIPTION:Future350 Bossa band leader Stephen Richard Johnson\, was once signed to Polydor Records with the new wave band The Victorian Parents. A native of Staffordshire England\, he lived in New York City for 18 years and County Cork\, Ireland for 2 years\, and now resides in Kingston NY. Johnson developed a hybrid of Irish/ Brazilian music on his first solo album Crystalline (2008). Datura Road was created when guitarist\, oudist\, vocalist\, and pennywhistle player\, Matt Nobile invited guitarist/mandolinist\, and former teacher Raphael Garritano\, to work through some songs. Percussionist David Budd was recruited shortly thereafter\, and bassist Peter Nobile was pulled in by his son Matt who then became the fourth member. Influenced by western classical and medieval music\, and flavored with West African and Middle Eastern music\, with a splash of jazz\, Datura Road has a world music sound that is uniquely engaging and passionately palatable\, achieving the best energy that world music has to offer. Their self-titled debut album contains innovative\, fervent and talented performances. Each tune is unexpectedly lyrical and vibrates with deep sentiments of Eastern and Western sounds and colors.
