Medical Musician Andrew Schulman in Conversation With Sohrab Saadat Ladjevardi (MFM President)
Andrew Schulman will be the first invited professional musician who will be talking with Musicians For Musicians‘ president Sohrab Saadat Ladjevardi for MFM members and aspiring musicians, how he found and created a niche in the music market to “make music and business” go hand in hand. He created a new term for his profession called “medical musician.” Due to the fact that the (acoustic) guitar is the perfect instrument for this kind of work, he would love to see more professional musicians, especially (acoustic) guitarists to follow in his footsteps.
He will provide real world advice using his experience as a medical musician, educator and author. In his book “Waking the Spirit” which was published in August 2016, he documented the healing power and benefits of music and its effect on health care.
Andrew Schulman Quote
“…I’ve managed to keep being a professional musician all this time, but what helped me the most in the last eight years was dropping dead on a gurney ride from an Operating Room to a Surgical Intensive Care Unit in July 2009, and then after being resuscitated having my life saved by music in a coma three days later. Not metaphorically. Physiologically.
It was all the professional experience I had accumulated in the intervening 45 years that gave me the necessary skills to develop the other two legs to my career as a musician – medical musician and writer.”
In this talk event, he will cover specifically:
- why and how he became a medical musician
- why the guitar is the perfect instrument for this kind of work
- describe his work places
- read from his book “Waking the Spirit”
- give music demonstrations
